WHAT'S NEW?
We are pleased to announce that Professors John L. Harwood and Randall Weselake are the new joint Editors-in Chief of the AOCS Lipid Library. Both are eminent scientists and they will bring fresh energy and imagination to the site. We can all look forward to its further development. Bill Christie will continue as Technical editor as well as looking after his own web pages.
Updates to our web pages:The major section of the AOCS Lipid Library dealing with Biochemistry and Nutrition is well underway. In the subsecton - Animal Lipid Biochemistry, recent articles deal with Phospholipases (Michelle Bamji-Mirza & Zemin Yao) and Glycerophosphate and acylglycerophosphate acyltransferases (Hei Sook Sul). The topic of "Nutrition" is in the planning stage, and we would like to have a section dealing
with "Biophysics" when a suitable editor can be found.
The latest article in Plant Lipid Biochemistry
is Triacylglycerol biosynthesis in eukaryotic microalgae (Yonghua Li-Beisson) - A subsection of the website dealing with Lipidomics, part of the Analysis section is now online. The second article by Robert Murphy deals with 'Lipidomic Analysis of Glycerolipids'. New articles are also being added to the Selected Topics in Analysis Section and the the most recent are Modifed AOCS method for oil content determination (by Keshun Liu) and Analysis of tocopherols and tocotrienols by HPLC (by Anna-Maija Lampi). Some of the article in this section now appear out of date and have been placed in an Archive section In the section of the Lipid Library dealing with
Edible Oil Processing,
the latest contributions deal with
Alkali refining (Robert Zeldenrust)
and Enzymatic degumming (Flavio Galhardo and Chris Dayton)
- New articles are now available in the Frying oil section, dealing with Separation and quantification of oxidized monomeric, dimeric and oligomeric fatty acids (Gloria Márquez-Ruiz) and Action of natural antioxidants during frying (M. Carmen Dobarganes). Boryana Nikolova-Damyanova has contributed new articles to the
Silver Ion Chromatography
pages of the site, the most recent dealing with
Multiple interactions in silver ion chromatography of lipids.
- In the 'history' section of the site,
Gary List has been searching for photographs of
Bailey Award winners to include in his webpage on this subject,
and has filled all the gaps.
However, we would be grateful for better quality photographs if anyone can make them available.
A brief biography of Paul Stumpf (by Tom McKeon and Bob Moreau is now online).

In the section - About
Lipids, web pages continue to be updated as new information becomes
available, and we have recently replaced all the figures with versions which are
technically superior. The latest article deals with
Arsenolipids -
In the Mass spectrometry section, we have now reached the milestone of 1873 spectra archived here for your reference, and we continue to add spectra to the Archive pages as they become available to us (8 in February 2012). We have found a better method of reproducing mass spectra and other figures online, and these are being improved as time permits. For example, all those in the tutorial section have been redrawn as have those in the Archive of mass spectra of methyl esters, of DMOX derivatives and now of 3-pyridylcarbinol ('picolinyl') esters. We have created a new sub-section of the Oils and Fats Section dealing with Lipid Chemistry. The latest article to go online deals with Guerbet compounds (by Gerhard Knothe). |
Our literature Service on Lipid Analysis gives regular updates on references. It constitutes a current awareness service, revised monthly. You can access the most recent references (Updated: April 27th, 2012) here...., or go to the Literature Service menu. A major update of all of these pages was completed in August, 2011.
Our web pages Selected Patents Relating to Oils and Fats in the Oils & Fats section are based on selections made for Inform by Scott Bloomer. It includes an archive - back to 2005. The most recent monthly update: May 10th, 2012.
