Dr. Tomas Rezanka
Dr. Tomáš Řezanka received his Ph.D. in microbiology at the Institute of Microbiology in Prague in 1984. He has been working as research assistant, research scientist and currently as a principal leading scientist at this institute. He received the DSc degree (higher doctorate - awarded in recognition of a substantial and sustained contribution to scientific knowledge beyond that required for a Ph.D.) in 2013.
Dr. Řezanka has published over 239 peer-reviewed papers in journals and 6 invited book chapters. He is a member of the Editorial Board of several international journals, e.g. Agents in Medicinal Chemistry (Bentham Science publishers) and Folia Microbiologica (Springer). He is also a member of the Biotechnology Board of the Institute of Chemical Technology, Prague.
Dr. Řezanka has broad research interests in lipid metabolism, analysis of lipids by modern physico-chemical methods and overproduction of lipids pro biotechnological use. He focuses on altering the production of microbial lipids by changing culture conditions of photosynthesizing microorganisms such as algae and cyanobacteria or non-photosynthetic eukaryotes, predominantly yeast. His special hobby is lipid metabolism in extremophilic - mostly thermophilic - bacteria and cyanobacteria.
