W. David Cowan, B.Sc., Ph.D.
David Cowan obtained his B.Sc. with Honours in Microbiology (specialization in applied microbiology and mycology) at the University of Surrey, Guildford (Surrey, UK) in 1971. He obtained his Ph.D. for a thesis entitled ‘Study of yeast antigenic structure and its influence on fermentation’ at the same university in 1977.
His professional career began at Watney Mann & Truman Brewers, London where he was a research microbiologist, while pursuing his Ph.D. at the University of Guilford (1971-1978). From there he moved to Novozymes A/S (UK, DK, Belgium), where he was employed in Technical Services first in application of enzymes to food and technical industries and then in application and development of enzymes in animal feed. From 2003 to the present, he has been a Customer solutions applications scientist, specializing in application and development of lipases in oil and fat processing.
